Sonntag, 4. Januar 2009Pat, who had never watched television before, made a concession and watched a half hour of nightly news with me. There was trouble in the Belgian Congo, and stories of it featured President Joseph Kasavubu. This inspired Pat to name our house, and one afternoon as I returned from Doylestown where I did the grocery shopping, I saw the sign out front: CASAVUBU.
Our landlady made Pat remove the handmade sign one afternoon when she came on a visit about another matter. After all, the house was on the market, and no one she knew thought it was funny, anyway, once it was explained.Marijane Meaker: Highsmith. A romance of the 1950s (2003), S. 96
